DEER MANAGEMENT

What you are likely to expect...

October- Generally warm weather. Deer will be using predictable feeding patterns to and from major agricultural fields. Bucks will be in bachelor groups during this period. This one of the easiest and most exciting times to pattern and hunt a mature buck at Ellislie.

November– The deer have generally moved to food plots as the major food source. Bucks will be traveling in smaller groups of two and three and are much less tolerant of each other’s presence. Hunting will be done in close proximity to food plots and bedding areas.

December– Deer use of food plots is very high at this time. The bucks are very aggressive and responsive to calling...the pre rut frenzy as we say! Rattling and grunting should work well.

January- Peak of the rut. There is no telling where a big buck might show up!

Remember, there are no guarantees in hunting!!!!!
